On Waiting

To Sum up 2020

Waiting for a reply from the solicitors, that’s how this year started. Waiting for a phone call, waiting for a letter, an email. Waiting for someone somewhere to get in touch.

Waiting for orders to arrive, wondering what the hell you spent your money on in the first place, surrounded by boxes with Amazon smiles.

Waiting for someone to collect a key, they wanted it, they need it. But they’re late and you’re left waiting… Another day in limbo, key safely tucked away in the back pocket. Waiting for someone who’s forgotten.

Waiting for the pubs to reopen. Waiting for Deliveroo with a pizza because after a day of waiting cooking feels like too much effort.

Waiting for normality. Waiting to return to work. Waiting for decisions, for conclusions, for nonsense that doesn’t make sense. Waiting for someone to explain what is meant.

Waiting for people to turn up, waiting for people to reply. Waiting for pay day and waiting to survive.

Waiting for glue to dry, waiting for nail varnish. Waiting for the kettle to boil… Then forgetting your drink.

Waiting for rain to stop, waiting for the washing machine to be free. Waiting for the cats to wake up so you can make your bed before bedtime.

Waiting to eat that last bar of chocolate (before you buy your next).

Waiting for 2021 because this year’s a mess!

  1. Made me smile.
    Then comes the question, how to be productive while waiting?

    Expectations = waiting.

    What if… the subject of the waiting never arrives, materializes, culminates, or occurs? Do we set ourselves up with unobtainable, unfulfillable expectations? What would it be like to abandon all precepts of aspiration? All wishes and desires? To anticipate… nothing?

    1. I’ve not ceased being productive, my creations are slowly taking over the small space I have and most of the waiting on orders is more craft kit to finish projects in hand. I’m actually taking a day off from creativity today to rest and catch up on other bits and bobs… like the blog.

    1. I haven’t got enough hours in the day to do more. I’m not sure how I managed to fit in a full time job around all these activities. xx
      In fact, I’m quite keen to get back to work for a rest…
